The days of Gary Cahill in Chelsea are numbered as Club owner, Roman Abramovich is reportedly plotting his dethronement as captain.  According to Transfer Window Podcast guest, Ian McGarry, Abramovich wants David Luiz to replace John Terry as captain of the club. He explained that Luiz was brought back from Paris Saint Germain because he was seen as the long term replacement for John Terry who left the club last summer to join Aston Villa.

According to Ian McGarry;

“David Luiz was returned to Chelsea because he’s one of Roman Abramovich’s favourite players. He was not necessarily the choice of anyone at the club on the coaching staff.

He’s loved by the owner of the club who saw him as the long-term successor to John Terry as captain of the club, and the fact Gary Cahill remains as captain instead of Luiz is still the matter of debate in Roman Abramovich’ box every second weekend when they play at home.

He added the Antonio Conte's decision to make Cahill captain over Luiz as well as drop him completely from the squad that played against Manchester United was an affront and maybe further worsen the relationship between them. That was two fingers to Roman Abramovich by dropping him from the squad completely.”
