The Super Eagles of Nigeria have failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing 4-3 on penalties to DR Congo on Sunday night.

Frank Onyeka scored in the third minute of the game, DR Congo equalized in the 32nd minute, and the match finished 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Both teams attempted to score during the extra time but could not achieve a goal to finish the match. The Leopards of DR Congo were victorious following the penalty shootout.

It was a bitter finish for Nigeria, but DR Congo was excited about their victory because the country last featured at the 1974 World Cup, when the country was known as Zaire.
