Former Aston Villa captain, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has called on his former club to sign Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling in this summer transfer window. Agbonlahor applauded the 29-year-old as outstanding; insisting that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery will not regret signing Raheem. Things has not been going well with Sterling at Chelsea under manager Enzo Maresca, as some see as he is just out of favour.

The England international has concluded plan to continue his career at a different club this season.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said “I just think, ‘Why not?’ You know, Raheem Sterling is 29. We are not talking about someone in their mid-thirties”.

“At the start of last season, we were all saying, ‘How is he not being called up by Gareth Southgate?’ He was in such great form.

“Chelsea were a shambles last season. Players were not given the games to prove themselves. It was a poor season for the majority of Chelsea players.

“So if its right and the club want to do it, why wouldn’t Aston Villa fans be on side? Because he is an outstanding player when he is being coached right by a top coach like Unai Emery – I’m sure he will get the best out of him.”
