Nigerian born Chelsea defender, Kenneth Omeruo has assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles will qualify for the Cameroon 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite a dramatic 2-0 loss to Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Omeruo who gave the assurance in Lagos while interacting with sports journalists appealed to Nigerians to be and give the team maximum support. “we still have five more games to determine our fate. Nigerians should continue to give us the desired support and we will definitely excel.”
He expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will defeat Bafana Bafana in the second encounter and also win other matches to qualify for AFCON. "For South Africa we will still play them at their home. We have a young team that plays really well.
We were all shocked about the loss. By the time we play the other games in the group, we will see. We just have to keep training and remain focused. I don’t think anyone will take it lightly. Our midfielders, Mikel, Moses and other senior players will have returned from injury by then. I think we will be ready for Cameroon.”
