Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, has been granted a one-year extension by President Bola Tinubu. Originally scheduled to leave office on August 31, 2025, Adeniyi will now serve until August 2026.
The extension is intended to allow Adeniyi to finalize important Tinubu government projects and consolidate ongoing changes, according to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
These include Nigeria's responsibilities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, the National Single Window Project, and the modernization of the Customs Service.
"President Tinubu acknowledges Mr. Adeniyi's unwavering dedication to service and leadership.
"With this extension, the Nigeria Customs Service will be even more equipped to fulfill its strategic mandate of border security, revenue generation, and trade facilitation," the statement said.
In October 2023, Tinubu named Adeniyi the CG of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Before his confirmation in October of the same year, Adeniyi was first appointed in an acting capacity. He succeeded incumbent CG Hameed Ali in June 2023.
