The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reopened the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

FAAN had on Thursday closed the runway after a private jet skidded off, losing its landing gear in the process.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has raised alarm over the sustained nefarious activities of some cross-border fuel smuggling syndicates and hoarders in the country.

The Corporation also noted that such activities have so far impeded its efforts to sanitise the fuel supply and distribution matrix across Nigeria.

NNPC Group Managing Director, Dr Maikanti Baru, said this on Wednesday in a presentation before the Joint National Assembly Committee on Petroleum Downstream in Abuja.

Nigerian carrier, Air Peace, is set to spread its wings to three more West African countries, with inaugural flights from Lagos to Freetown in Sierra Leone, Banjul in The Gambia and Dakar, Senegal on Feb 19.

The airline, in a statement signed by its Communications Manager, Mr Chris Iwarah, on Tuesday in Lagos, said the new routes constitute the second phase of the expansion of its network on the West Coast of Africa.

The airline had earlier fixed December15, 2017 for its inaugural flights to the three countries.

The Federal Government has approved the gazette of supplementary regulations for the mandatory use of the National Identity Number (NIN), and other identification platforms.

The Managing Director, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Mr Aliyu Aziz, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the step would allow the commission to deliver on its mandate as expected and in record time.

According to him, the Federal Government has gazetted and published five Regulations, following an approval from the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Minister of Justice in November, 2017.

The Ijaw Youth Council, Abuja Chapter (IJC) and allied youths group in the Niger Delta have appealed to the Federal Government to shelve its plans to wind down the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

Mr Ebizimor Raphael, Chairman IJC, Abuja Chapter, who briefed newsmen on Monday in Abuja, said that PAP had yet to meet its mandate.

He said acquiesced that programme would not last forever; adding however, that it should be handled without premature or terminal processes as the wounds of the Niger Delta had yet to be healed.

The Federal government had recently hinted at terminating PAP.

The Nigerian government has resolved to roll out electricity meters with the involvement of local producers for mass production.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola made the disclosure while inspecting the National Meter Test Station in Oshodi, Lagos.

“We plan to roll out meters, and we must," Fashola said. Adding that the Federal Government had concluded plans to involve more Nigerians in meter manufacturing.

Fashola also said that the measure would reduce the pressure on Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) on meter supply.

“The core business of DISCOs is to transport energy; their business is not to supply meters.
