The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has suspended its planned nationwide strike.

The decision to suspend the strike which was planned to commence 11:59 pm Monday followed the intervention of the Director of State Security Service, the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu.

PENGASSAN giving reasons for the strike had earlier alleged anti-labour practices against some of its members by some indigenous oil companies.

The Nigerian Army has reacted to reports that four United Nations staff were killed by Boko Haram insurgents when four trucks conveying food for Internally Displaced Persons in Borno State were attacked.

The World Food Programme (WFP) an agency of the UN had on Sunday confirmed an attack on its food convoy which was taking food to Internally Displaced Persons in Ngala, Borno State on Saturday.

No fewer than 20 vehicles and four commercial motorcycles were on Wednesday afternoon burnt when a tanker laden with petrol fell and spilled its content on the Festac Link Bridge in Awuwo Odofin LGA of Lagos State.

The fire started at noon and raged for about an hour.

Fire fighters arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later but did not have enough water to quench the fire.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a former Head of Service of the Federation, Mr Stephen Oronsaye permission to travel to India for medicals and to return for the continuation of his trial in January 2018.

Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren in a statement on Tuesday said Oronsaye is standing trial along with Osarenkhoe Afe, the Managing Director, Fredrick Hamilton Global Services Limited, and both are alleged to be complicit in several contract awards of about N2billion during his tenure as HoS.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has said it will appeal against the ruling of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal, which today held that the agency lacked powers to investigate or prosecute serving judicial officials except where such officers have been dismissed by the National Judicial Council.

In a statement signed by the EFCC Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, the Commission said it considers the ruling a dangerous precedent that has no basis in law and is confident that the Supreme Court will upturn the judgment.

Members of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners ( NUP ), Sokoto state chapter have urged the Governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, to seek re-election in 2019.

Alhaji Umaru Abubakar, the state Chairman of the union gave the advice on Monday in Sokoto while speaking with journalists during the 2017 pensioners’ day.

He said the decision of the union was based on the fact that Tambuwal had been able to pay N4 billion accumulated and inherited gratuities and pensions to state and local government retirees in two years.
