The Senate has summoned the Minister of State Aviation, Hadi Sirika, to appear before lawmakers at Plenary and explain the reason for the recent air mishaps and near fatalities in the country.
A federal lawmaker, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, in a notion observed that there were two air mishaps in February 2018.
Justice Suleiman Dikko, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, has threatened to implement the ‘no-work-no-pay,’ policy to compel striking judiciary workers to return to their duty post.
Dikko, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) through Mr Enoch Ali-Maku, the Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State High Court, said all staff should report to their offices immediately.
He said that in line with labour laws, any worker who took part in a strike was not entitled to any remuneration throughout the period of the strike.
At least seven people were killed and 15 others persons severely injured following the violence that broke out in Kasuwa Magani village in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
International Press Institute (IPI) is set to hold its 2018 World Congress in Nigeria.
The Congress which is themed “Why Journalism Matters; Quality Media For Strong Societies” is aimed at discussing hate speeches, press freedom, quality journalism, among other press issues even as Nigeria’s 2019 general elections fast approaches.
The congress is to hold in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja in June.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it is “very disturbed” by the conflicting reports on the girls who fled Government Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe state, following a Boko Haram attack on Monday night.
Yobe state commission of police had on Wednesday claimed that 111 schoolgirls were missing after the attack.
The claim by police was however at variance with earlier remarks by the state commissioner of education, Mohammed Lamin, who said 98 students were missing out of which 48 had returned.
The Federal Government has commenced investigation into the accident involving an airline operated by Dana Airline.
The investigation is being carried out by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).
AIB under the Federal Ministry of Transportation is set up to investigate any civil aircraft accident and serious incident in Nigerian airspace. It is aimed at improving aviation safety by determining the circumstances and causes of air accidents in Nigeria.
