The Ijaw Youth Council, Abuja Chapter (IJC) and allied youths group in the Niger Delta have appealed to the Federal Government to shelve its plans to wind down the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

Mr Ebizimor Raphael, Chairman IJC, Abuja Chapter, who briefed newsmen on Monday in Abuja, said that PAP had yet to meet its mandate.

He said acquiesced that programme would not last forever; adding however, that it should be handled without premature or terminal processes as the wounds of the Niger Delta had yet to be healed.

The Federal government had recently hinted at terminating PAP.

The Nigerian government has resolved to roll out electricity meters with the involvement of local producers for mass production.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola made the disclosure while inspecting the National Meter Test Station in Oshodi, Lagos.

“We plan to roll out meters, and we must," Fashola said. Adding that the Federal Government had concluded plans to involve more Nigerians in meter manufacturing.

Fashola also said that the measure would reduce the pressure on Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) on meter supply.

“The core business of DISCOs is to transport energy; their business is not to supply meters.

The Federal Government has again warned Nigerians against embarking on the perilous journey to Libya as a means of travelling to Europe for greener pastures.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, issued the warning on Sunday while addressing reporters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

She asked Nigerians who might be insisting on embarking on such journeys to learn from the bitter experience of the returnees from the North African country.

“Anybody thinking of going on that journey should just perish the thoughts because you are not likely to survive it,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

Some Ijaw inhabitants and their Itsekiri’s neighbours in Delta State have locked horns over the ownership of the location, where the Nigerian Maritime University is sited and with the latter citing a Supreme Court judgment, affirming their ownership of the area.

The development is generating a lot of reactions including from the Federal Government as the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami in a memo to the clerk of the National Assembly, on October 17, 2017, advised the National Assembly to change the name of the location of the Maritime University, from Okerenkoko, to Okerenghigho.

The purported memo by the AGF was condemned by prominent Niger Delta activist from Gbaramatu in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, High Chief Micheal Johnny.

Members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have commended a recent Appeal Court judgment in Abuja, which declared Chinedu Okoronkwo as the national president of the association.

The marketers gave the commendation in a statement issued by their National Secretary, Alhaji Danladi Passali, after the National Executive Meeting (NEC) on Wednesday in Abuja.

Passali stated that the new development would address the issues of misconduct and mismanagement, which they say, is currently rocking the association.

Smile Mission Health Care (SMHC), an NGO, on Tuesday, said it distributed blankets and other relief items to 2,000 persons displaced by Boko Haram insurgency in Borno.

The Coordinator of the NGO, Dr Abba Saleh, made the disclosure while

distributing the items at the Madinatu Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri.
