President Muhammadu Buhari has today constituted a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for Presidential Power Initiate Committee. In an effort to reposition the power sector and increase the capacity of electricity generation and distribution in Nigeria, the President is worried about the state of the power in the country, describing it as a critical component of sustainable development. As the fall out of the Federal Executive Council approval, Buhari said the deal has been signed and sealed for delivery, the cost is very clear for the SPV to get to work.

Employees under various unions in the aviation sector have threatened industrial action should the federal government go ahead with its concession plan of Nigeria's four major international airports. The aggrieved workers during a protest on Monday in Abuja vowed to resist the moves by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, to give out the Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano international airports on the concession. They promised to down their tools if the concession process continued. They argued that the identified airports were the most profitable in Nigeria and the concession of these facilities would lead to job losses.

About 75 stranded Nigerians and 35 other nationals bringing the total number of passengers on board to 110 have successfully evacuated Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan. The flight which is the fifth Mission's evacuation Special Flight took off from Cairo.

The Federal Government has announced the resumption of international flights after it felt the airports had reached advanced stages of preparedness for the resumption of international flight operations. Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Monday, made the announcement during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. He earlier tweeted the same news on his Twitter handle. According to the statement, the international flights will resume August 29 from Lagos, the country's commercial hub, and Abuja. Travel within other cities will follow at a later date, the ministry said.

Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has reacted to the video of purported stranded Nigerian immigrants in Dubai alleged to have thrown into the desert. There a viral video going around the social media circulated by a Nigerian in Dubai claiming they have been chased by the United Arab Emirate (UAE) authorities into the desert. Recall that the UAE authorities in July had announced that Nigerians whom their visas have expired were given grace of up to August 17 to vacate the country.

Late Flying Officer, Tolulope Sarah Arotile, Nigeria's first female combat helicopter pilot, has been finally laid to rest with full military honours, amidst tributes from many illustrious Nigerians, at the military cemetery, along Airport Road Abuja. The national heroine was accorded full military honours in a solemn occasion attended by military top brass, in Abuja led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin. The young military Star's body was lowered into the grave at exactly 11:05 am followed by a barrage of 21-gun salute.
