The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Friday said the hard economic decisions taken by President Bola Tinubu are beginning to yield results, following a fresh decline in the country’s inflation rate. The Minister stated this during the eighth edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series, held at the National Press Centre, Abuja. Idris was reacting to the latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics, which showed that Nigeria’s headline inflation rate dropped from 24.23 in March to 23.71 percent in April 2025. “Today, I am pleased to announce encouraging news from the National Bureau of Statistics, which released the Consumer Price Index for April 2025 yesterday," the minister said.

While the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), yesterday, were proposed N794,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers , their counterpart, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) advocating for N497,000 during the South-West zonal public hearing currently ongoing on the National Minimum Wage across the country. Accordingly, the hearing was organised by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, and was billed to hold at every geopolitical zone of all the six zones held simultaneously across the country.

The Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage set up by the President Tinubu administration is calling on the stakeholders for participation in proposing and implementing of a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers. The Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, made this known through a statement released on today Friday, saying that the committee has pencilled March 7th for a public hearing. It was learned that the retired Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Aji, will be heading the committee, as inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
