Bill Gates, the Chair of the Gates Foundation, is scheduled to visit Nigeria this week. During his visit, he will meet with President Bola Tinubu and other senior officials to discuss reforms in the country’s primary health care system. He will also participate in a Goalkeepers Nigeria event focused on Africa’s innovation and meet scientists and partners shaping AI strategy and scaling up health solutions. Gate's visit is coming after he announced that he will be donating $200 billion to Africa for the next 20 years through his foundation. He made this commitment yesterday to African leaders at Africa's Union House in Addis Ababa.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of several Kano athletes in an auto crash on Saturday. According to reports, the incident occurred as the state contingents were returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State. Many athletes reportedly died when the coaster bus they were traveling in fell off a bridge after it had arrived in Kano.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate mobilisation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant federal agencies to provide urgent assistance to victims of the devastating flood disaster in Mokwa local government area of Niger State. In a swift response to what he described as a “distressing tragedy,” President Tinubu vowed that the federal government would deliver a coordinated and compassionate relief effort to affected communities. From available reports, at least 150 lives were feared lost, with more than 3000 families displaced. No fewer than 75 bodies have been buried and over 100 persons remained unaccounted for, as search-and-rescue operations continued in the submerged communities.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced reconstruction work on three transmission towers that collapsed along the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line. According to a statement issued on Saturday by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs,  TCN said it has mobilised three separate contractors to the site, and each has been assigned to rebuild one of the fallen towers. Consequently, the collapse has impacted the bulk electricity supply to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, leading to supply disruptions across multiple communities, especially in Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Friday said the hard economic decisions taken by President Bola Tinubu are beginning to yield results, following a fresh decline in the country’s inflation rate. The Minister stated this during the eighth edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series, held at the National Press Centre, Abuja. Idris was reacting to the latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics, which showed that Nigeria’s headline inflation rate dropped from 24.23 in March to 23.71 percent in April 2025. “Today, I am pleased to announce encouraging news from the National Bureau of Statistics, which released the Consumer Price Index for April 2025 yesterday," the minister said.

Together, we will make Nigeria great again”, Tinubu declared in the May Day message.
