The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have suspended the planned nationwide strike that was slated for Wednesday, 7th, June, 2023 over the removal of subsidy by President Tinubu. This followed the outcome of the meeting between the labour leaders and the Federal Government after a long day of negotiation yesterday. Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this to the newsmen, saying that the agreement reached was for the NLC and TUC to form a committee that would propose a wage increase instead as well as establish a timeline for its implementation.

Following the subsidy removal by the Federal Government, the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has today declared a nationwide strike commencing from Wednesday next week. The union made this known during its National Executive Council, NEC meeting held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT today. The NLC NEC meeting is a fallout of the subsidy removal by the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinibu and was followed by a price hike by petroleum marketers that resulted in up to a 200% increase in the pump price across the country.

The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the representative of the Federal Government have today scheduled to meet on the plan for petroleum subsidy removal. NLC national president, Joe Ajaero, made this known today while speaking on a Channel TV program, Sunrise Daily today. Ajaero revealed that the meeting has been scheduled for 2:00 pm today. According to him, “Government seems to have shown interest in the discussion. As of last night, they reached out and we have fixed 2 pm today to commence discussions,”

President Muhammadu Buhari in the company of his Vice president Prof. Yemi was today joined by Service Chiefs in the country to commemorate the Armed forces Remembrance day in a colorful way. The Annual celebration is part of the Nigerian armed ritual that is been undertaken every 15th of January where armed forces converge in every state of the federation to remember their fallen heroes and lay wreaths in commemoration of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

In preparations to mark Nigerian independence at 62, the federal government has disclosed itineraries of programs to mark the activities for the celebration of the Nigerian independence anniversary in style on the 1st of October day. The Minister of information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this while addressing pressmen in Abuja on the activities to commemorate the Nigerian independence which is slated to commence on September 25th. The Minister said, there will be a church service on Sunday, 25th September, at the National Christian Centre, Central Business District, Abuja by 3:00 pm.

President Muhammadu Buhari travelled to Portugal on Tuesday on a state visit at the invitation of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, where President Buhari will be conferred with Portugal’s National Honour and decorated with the ‘Great Collar of the Order of Prince Henry’.
