The Federal government said it is planning to celebrate this year independent day on a low-key without any form of vibrant celebration. Nigerian Independence day is usually celebrated on every 1st October of every year as it is the day Nigeria got her independence from Britain. It was learned that this year own is going to be a low-key as no event has been pencilled to future at the regular Eagle square, Abuja.

The United States of America has confirmed that it had ordered the temporary departure of non-emergency employees of its citizens in Niger and their families. Matthew Miller, a U.S Department of State Spokesperson stated that, “Given ongoing developments in Niger and out of an abundance of caution, the Department of State is ordering the temporary departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and eligible family members from the U.S. Embassy in Niamey.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is slated to address Nigerians this evening by 1900hrs, July 31st, 2023 in a nationwide broadcast. The presidential spokesperson, Dele Alake made this known this morning advising all media houses to take note. The statement reads, “Television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.”

The United States (US) Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have revealed when they will release Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s criminal and immigration records to the public. In a court document sighted by journalists, the FBI and US State Department cited ‘unusual circumstances’ for the inability to release the records to the public.

Some section of media yesterday had reported that the retired police officer has been penciled to head the antigraft agency pending the confirmation of the National Assembly.

The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have suspended the planned nationwide strike that was slated for Wednesday, 7th, June, 2023 over the removal of subsidy by President Tinubu. This followed the outcome of the meeting between the labour leaders and the Federal Government after a long day of negotiation yesterday. Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this to the newsmen, saying that the agreement reached was for the NLC and TUC to form a committee that would propose a wage increase instead as well as establish a timeline for its implementation.
