Zamfara State government has ordered all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state to leave immediately and has ordered security agencies to investigate and prosecute any NGO still operating in the state without due clearance. The state government has also ordered Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to cease any form of relationship with the NGOs, warning that sanctions will befall any MDA that flouts the directive.

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has sentenced Shedrack Ibibo and Magus Awuri, two former officers of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to death by hanging over the killing of Michael Akor and Michael Igwe, while in their custody for allegedly stealing recharge cards in Oyigbo, Rivers state in 2015.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Akali Baba has ordered the arrest and prosecution of persons engaging in the selling and abusing of the new naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria. This was contained in a statement issued by the police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi on 3rd February 2023. The scarcity of the new notes has worsened cash transactions in local markets, as poor networks and other technical issues stifle online transactions. According to Friday’s statement by the police spokesperson, Mr. Baba’s directive is in furtherance of the federal government’s policy and drive to uphold the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

An Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police and Head of the National Central Bureau, INTERPOL, Nigeria, Garba Umar disclosed that the government of the United Kingdom (UK) rejected a request to extradite a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, over alleged corruption during her tenure. Umar made this revelation on Thursday while appearing before the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee assigned to investigate the alleged loss of over $2.4bn in revenue from illegal sale of about 48 million barrels of crude oil in 2015 including crude oil exports from 2014 till date.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced that it has arrested some syndicates involved in the sale of the newly redesigned naira notes which was made known on Monday in a statement issued by the DSS Spokesperson, Peter Afunanya.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Sunday that it had uncovered a transborder cartel operating in the United Arab Emirates, Togo, Benin Republic, Oman, Thailand, the European continent, and several states in Nigeria. This was made known in a statement by Director, Media, and Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, adding that the operation lasted for weeks and 5 members have been arrested.
