The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is scheduled to be arraigned before the Federal High Court, Lagos on July 25 on two counts charges. Victor Opara (SAN), one of his lawyers confirmed that hearing notices to that effect have been sent out by the court to counsels involved in the matter.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has okayed the application by the federal government to secretly try the witnesses line up to testify against the terroristr negotiator, Mr Tukur Mamu over his role in the train attack in year 2022. The presiding Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order following an-exparte motion moved by D.E. Kwase, counsel to the federal government, AGF office. The ex-parte motion marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/96/2023, Kaswe said the application dated May 11, was filed on June 15.

The Nigerian Army (NA) has disclosed that troops of 192 Battalion operating in 81 Division Area of Responsibility have apprehended an international ammunition smuggling syndicate while transporting a truckload of smuggled ammunition en route to Anambra state. This was made known on Monday in a statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu who stated that a Stop and Search operation took place on Saturday, July 15, 2023, along Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North Local Area in Ogun State, adding that the development was a result of actionable intelligence made available to the troops.

The Federal Government has filed a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The FG is accusing Emefiele of possessing 123 rounds of live ammunition and a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a licence. The government maintained that the offence is contrary to Section 4 of the Firearms Act, Cap F28 Laws of the Federation 2004, and punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act. In the second count, the suspended CBN Governor was accused of having in his possession 123 rounds of live ammunition (Cartridges) without a licence, which is contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act Cap F28 Laws of the Federation 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted about 64,863 kilograms of nitrous oxide, also known as ‘laughing gas’ at the Apapa seaport in Lagos and Imo states. This was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by the Agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, stating that this development occurred within 24 hours after NDLEA’s Director General; Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.) ordered all commands and formations of the Agency to commence a nationwide clampdown on the illegal sale and use of the gas.
