The management of Guardian Newspapers Limited has apologized to the Department of State Services (DSS) over a story the newspaper house published portraying the secret police as meddling in the affairs of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Entitled "Lagos Assembly Crisis Worsens, Reveals Deeper Crack in State Power Dynamics," the newspaper claimed that several DSS operatives invaded the Lagos Assembly.
The Department of State Services, DSS, might not have gotten it all right in some of its operations over the years, paving way for unwarranted media fallacies on some unsolicited questions surrounding the professionalism of the DSS operations. The new gladiator piloting the affairs of the Service has sharpened its operation standard to its core responsibilities, promoting its integrity to covert strategies which it is established for. That is why it is pointless for an attention seeker like Omoyele Sowore to sneer against the DSS, as well as conscripting his followers to do the same in the name of activism.
The former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, witnessed the launch of his presidential library and his autobiography, “A Journey in Service”, yesterday with President Bola Tinubu leading former presidents and former military leaders, and other stakeholders to praise him.
Jidechukwu Iwuanyanwu, eldest son to Late Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the immediate former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a recent post, attributed his father’s passing to complications following a visit to Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS facility. In his claim, Jidechukwu posited that his father Iwuanyanwu, who was 82 years old, was made to walk for about 20 minutes during his visit to Kanu. It is therefore very important to approach this claim with caution and objectivity.
On the 26th of August 2024, a new Director General (DG), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi was announced for the DSS by President Tinubu to replace Magaji Bichi its erstwhile DG who had held sway in the last 6 years. The announcement of Ajayi threw the entire spy agency and its operatives into jubilations and celebrations, and this prompted me to probe the pedigree of the new man. I was quite amazed at the feedback my inquiry brought up. I learned that Ajayi stood out among his peers and predecessors in terms of competence, professionalism, and extraordinary leadership style, which has become a model for the staff of the agency who have crossed paths with him in the line of duty.
It can be excusable when actions are taken out of ignorance but not so when persons seen to be enlightened deliberately ignore truths and hold onto falsehood out of flippancy and unbridled sentiments. Such individuals are really dangerous to the society as their goal is to cause social disharmony against their targets for reasons best known to them.
