The first batch of Nigerians evacuated from the United Kingdom (UK) has arrived Lagos about 13:45 pm at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, on Friday, May 8, via British Airways 9155. The Nigerians were stranded in the United Kingdom following the COVID-19 lockdown have arrived in Lagos.

The Nigerian military has recorded yet another success in their fight to eliminate terrorism in the northeast region of the country after the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole reportedly neutralized several suspected Boko Haram terrorists and destroyed some of their logistics facilities at Parisu in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.

The Federal Government through the Minister of Interior, Ogneni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, has declared Friday, May 1, 2020, as public holiday to mark this year's International Workers' Day celebration. The minister in a statement applauded Nigerian “workers for their resilience, patience and understanding, particularly in their support of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration’s efforts at stemming the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country”.
