The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has officially dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, relayed this message during a press conference held October 11, 2020. He stated that the police officers deployed under SARS, will now be deployed for other purposes and a new anti-robbery squad with the same objectives as SARS will be named later. The principal law enforcement and the lead security agency in Nigeria boss added that conducts, members and activities of their unit investigated with collaboration with civil societies organisation - when found wanting, identified culprits within the force will be punished.

President Muhammadu Buhari has yesterday night met with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu at the statehouse where he expressed concern over the growing tension of the EndSARS protest staged by the Nigerian youth, directing the IG to restore order.

The #EndSARS protesters lead by Omoleye Sowore, on Thursday stormed the Police headquarter, in Abuja demanding the reformation of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The #EndSARS campaigners sat on the Shehu Shagari Way, chanting ‘EndSARS,’ and displaying different placards with same inscription.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has issued an order to all Assistant Inspectors-General in charge of zonal commands and also state Commissioners of Police to detain and dismiss from the Nigeria Police Force any officer, found guilty of violating the rights of the citizens. Vigil360 reported earlier during the week about the IGPs ban of the patrol of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other special teams. The IGP has further issued a directive in a letter for a compilation of recent cases of violation of citizens’ rights and abuse of power by the FSARS, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS), Special Anti Cultism Squad (SACS) and other similar teams, to be forwarded to his office by Friday.

The Founder of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujihad Asari-Dokubo has said the plight and struggles to restore the Biafra Republic is an effort in futility under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying, Kanu has completely derailed from the cause of the struggle. Dokubo, stated this while speaking to the Vanguard newspaper expressing his regrets for associating with Kanu from the first place. He said "It gives me regret that in my life, I ever associated with a person called Nnamdi Kanu, especially during his crisis with government, stressing his greatest regret was associating himself with Kanu.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has on Saturday reiterated his commitment to protecting the residents of lagos state. He wrote on Twitter "The safety of our residents is my number one duty as the CSO of Lagos. So, reading reports of seemingly unlawful exploitation by the people charged to protect is very worrying & needs to be addressed immediately. Be assured that appropriate actions will be taken, & speedily too." This is coming on the heels of ongoing online protest against reported harassment unlawful extortion, arrest and numerous unsavory reports against Nigerians by some rogue members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
