Emerging reports indicate that the Federal Government has deployed a combined team of more security personnel to Benue state to address the increasing incidents of killings by suspected herdsmen. The State Governor, Samuel Ortom stated this on Thursday on the floor of the Benue State House of Assembly where he was summoned my members to brief the House on efforts being put in place to end killings in the state.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Adamawa Command, says it has commenced intensive surveillance on major routes along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

NDLEA said the move was a sequel to the Federal Government ban on the production and importation of codeine into the country.

The Federal Ministry of Health had directed NDLEA offices across the country to ensure strict surveillance of the borders.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.- Gen. Tukur Buratai, has warned officers and men of the Nigerian Army not to resort to social media to air their grievances or discuss operational strategies.

Buratai said such acts could be injurious to national security.

He gave the warning on Tuesday when he declared open an Officers Office Management and Documents Security Workshop at the Command Officers Mess, Abuja.

Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Maj.- Gen. Rasheed Yusuf, warned that resorting to the social media was highly prohibited by the military.

The reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) head office building is on fire are false, says the CBN acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Isaac Okorafor.

According to Okorafor, the rumour started when passersby saw a pall of exhaust from the CBN generator house and mistook it for fire.

“The CBN maintains a total security system that triggers safety alarms in the presence of smoke and so all fire engines and personnel received the alert only to discover that it was an unusual pall of exhaust.

The Federal Government has described the two separate suicide bomb attacks in Adamawa State as tragic and condemnable.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo condemned the attacks in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande.

According to him, the government is shocked and outraged by the suicide attacks on a Mosque and a Market in Mubi which left at least 27 people dead on May 1.
