The Nigerian police have promoted 45 officers involved in the arrest of a billionaire suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumuje Onuoamadike, aka Evans.
The Police Service Commission approved the special promotion of the officers and acting appointments for another 13 officers.
All of the officers were promoted for the gallantry in the arrest of Evans and 21 others believed to be members of his gang.
Ahmad Salkida, the journalist who is known to have access to the Boko Haram terrorist group, has said that 30 out of the remaining 113 abducted Chibok girls are alive.
He revealed the figure in a series of tweets on Tuesday, days after he had claimed that only 15 of the abducted girls in captivity were alive.
According to the journalist, objectives his earlier tweets on Saturday which marked the fourth-year anniversary of the abduction of the schoolgirls included compelling the Federal Government and the insurgents to come clean with the information they have.
Amnesty International has called on the Federal Government not to violate the rights of Nigerians who stage peaceful protests in the country.
The Director of Amnesty International in Nigeria, Ms Osai Ojigho, said this in a statement on Tuesday while condemning the disruption of a protest by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja.
Members of the group had stormed the Wuse area in the Federal Capital Territory, to demand the release of their leader Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah, from detention.
The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, said it arrested 115 Shiite members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria ( IMN) during a violent protest in Abuja.
The police also debunked stories in the social media that some lives were lost.
“No life was lost in the violent protest as the police operatives deployed to quell the protest were professional in handling the situation,”the police spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah said.
The Senate has faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the clash between it, the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency.
The Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu; and the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.), were particularly accused of not following due process in the operation that caused the clash.
The Senate had resolved to investigate the November 21, 2017, showdown between officials of the DSS and the EFCC in Abuja.
