Rogers Nicholas, theatre commander, operation Lafiya Dole, says the Nigerian Army has completely defeated the Boko Haram insurgents.
Nicholas said this during the inauguration of the Nigeria-Cameroun Military joint mission on Saturday in Maiduguri, Borno capital.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is currently meeting behind closed doors with members of the National Economic Council Committee on Pastoralist/Farmers Clash, comprising some state governors. The meeting is aimed at fashioning out modalities to end the increasing cases of herdsmen attacks across parts of the country.
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said it had commenced the construction of roads in the Sambisa Forest as part of the ongoing clearance operation to dislodge remnants of Boko Haram insurgents. The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, who made the disclosure in a statement issued in Maiduguri, said that the army had begun the construction project to open the forest and link communities around.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has denied claims by Amnesty International, that it was involved in human rights abuses during the herdsmen/farmers clashes in Numan general area of Adamawa. NAF, in a statement by its Spokesman, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, described the entire allegations by the international body as “lies.’’
Members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have said they will resist plans by the Federal Government to establish cattle colonies in the South-East. In a statement issued by its National Director of Information, Comrade Samuel Edeson, the group said the idea of Cattle colony was intended to impose Islam and cede Biafra land to people with distinct religious and cultural background.
The Nigerian Army has advised Nigerians to be vigilant as fleeing members of Boko Haram may recruit suicide bombers to carry out attacks on churches, Mosques, markets and recreation centres among others. The Army made this known on Saturday in a statement issued by its spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman.
