President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed-door with heads of security agencies in the country as part of efforts to address growing insecurity across parts of the country. The Presidency confirmed the meeting in a tweet posted on its verified Twitter handle @NGRPresident. The tweet reads;
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, has directed security agencies to tackle those propagating hate speeches, especially through the social media. The order was given at a security meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.) on Tuesday in Abuja, held a crucial meeting with heads of internal security agencies over the herdsmen killings and other security challenges in the country. Speaking shortly before the meeting commenced, Dambazau expressed concern over the current security situation in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday assured Nigerians that increasing cases of killings being carried out by suspected herdsmen in communities across the country would soon be brought under control. He said security agents deployed to affected areas would achieve the feat in no distant time.
The Enugu State Police Command has embarked on “Know Your Neighbour’’ campaign and released hotlines as measures to curb crimes. The command released hotlines – 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 and 08098880172 – for residents to report any suspicious person, movement or gathering.
The fuel scarcity currently being experienced in many parts of the country is taking its toll on Nigerians, with the average cost of transportation rising by 23.99 per cent in December, an analysis of a report prepared by the National Bureau of Statistics has revealed.
The report for December 2017 covers bus journey within the city; bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person; air fare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada); and waterway passengers’ transport.
