The Federal Government has ordered the payment of N135 million as compensation for the families of those who were killed and wounded at some squatters in the Apo Area of Abuja.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami on Thursday said the decision to compensate the victims was based on findings by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that they were not Boko Haram members as was alleged by security agencies.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is planning to embark on peaceful protest and prayers against unending killings and freedom of Leah Sharibu and Chibok schools girls on Sunday, April 29.

CAN made the declaration in a statement following the killing of two Catholic priests; Rev.Fr Joseph Gor, Rev.Fr Felix Tyolaha and 17 worshippers of St. Ignatius Quasi Parish, Ukpor-Mbalom, Gwer East LGA of Benue State.

The United Kingdom has promised to provide kits on counter improvised explosive Devices (IEDs) worth one million pounds to boost the fight against insurgency, NAN reports. The United Kingdom’s Minister of Armed Forces, Mark Lancaster, revealed this when he met with Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mansur Dan-Ali, in London on the sidelines of the concluded Commonwealth meeting.

The father of Leah Sharibu, the only Christian Dapchi schoolgirl still being held by Boko Haram following alleged refusal to denounce Christianity, Mr. Nathan Sharibu has debunked media reports that her daughter had been released by the insurgent group. Mr. Sharibu gave the clarification in an interview with Punch.

Following the recent deadly robbery attack on some commercial banks in Offa, Kwara state, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has ordered the redeployment of the Kwara state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Lawan Ado with immediate effect. According to Vanguard, Ado had been replaced with Mr. Aminu Pai Saleh as the new police commissioner for the state. The former Commissioner on the other hand has been redeployed to Police College, Kaduna.

The Nigerian police have promoted 45 officers involved in the arrest of a billionaire suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumuje Onuoamadike, aka Evans.

The Police Service Commission approved the special promotion of the officers and acting appointments for another 13 officers.

All of the officers were promoted for the gallantry in the arrest of Evans and 21 others believed to be members of his gang.
