Nigeria’s National Economic Council, NEC, has constituted a committee to collaborate with the Nigerian government to address the issues of impunity and violence resulting from clashes between herdsmen and farmers. The decision to set up the committee was one of the decisions taken at Thursday’s National Economic Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says its remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) has successfully destroyed an emerging insurgents’ vehicle workshop in the Sambisa general area. The Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, AVM Olatokunbo Adesanya, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Residents of Logo, Guma and Okpokwu Local Government Areas of Benue State, have suffered a set of renewed attacks by suspected herdsmen which have claimed the lives of six persons.

Governor Samuel Ortom confirmed the vicious attacks on Wednesday when he received a former military administrator of the state, Brigadier General Dominic Oneya (rtd), who led a delegation on a condolence visit to the governor, at the Government House in Makurdi, the state capital.

According to the Governor, two women were reported killed in Guma LGA and two persons in Logo on Tuesday, stressing that pockets of killings were still ongoing.

The senate has given Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police (IGP), 14 days ultimatum to arrest and investigate the perpetrators of Benue killings. This position was sequel to the consideration of a report of the senate ad hoc committee on the review of the current security infrastructure in Nigeria.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba state Chapter has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of doing very little to address security challenges posed by Fulani herdsmen because he is sympathetic to his kinsmen. The Christian body made this known on Monday in a statement issued by its Chairman, Ben Ubeh.
