The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has graduated the first set of in-house trained pilots for its Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA), as part of the human capacity development initiatives of the current NAF leadership. Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya said the 5 newly trained RPA pilots were decorated with their ‘wings’ by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base at Maiduguri.

The United Nations has condemned the killing of three aid workers by Boko Haram terrorists in Rann town of Borno State, North-east Nigeria.

The terrorists had attacked a camp of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area on Thursday. The international body said three aid workers were also injured, and a female nurse is missing.

Reacting to the killing in a statement on Friday, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, urged the Federal Government to ensure the attackers are brought to book.

The US treasury department has included Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, factional leader of Boko Haram, to its sanctions list for global terrorism. Al-Barnawi’s group is suspected of being behind the abduction of female students from Dapchi, a town in Yobe state On Tuesday, the treasury’s office of foreign assets control (OFAC) said two individuals and seven organisations in Africa and Asia have been included in the list.

At least three aid workers have been killed in the northeastern Nigerian town of Rann, in Borno State, during an attack by Boko Haram insurgents on a military base of 3rd Battalion, in Kala-Balge headquarters of Rann, United Nations spokeswoman confirmed on Friday. A fourth aid worker may also have been killed and another was feared abducted, the spokeswoman said. A separate UN source said the attack in Borno state was likely to have been carried out by jihadist group Boko Haram.

The Federal Government has released the names and full details of the 110 girls who are yet to be accounted for, following the attack on the Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, Yobe State.

The Federal Government will on Wednesday, inaugurate a 12-member committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction of 110 students of the Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC) in Dapchi, Yobe State, on 19 Feb.

The panel will begin work tomorrow after its inauguration.

The committee was convened by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), according to a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
