The Nigerian government is to investigate the alleged deaths of 26 Nigerian girls on the Mediterranean Sea. This was in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, released in Abuja, late on Tuesday. The statement, signed by spokesman, Dr. Tope Elias-Fatile, said that the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been in constant touch with its mission in Rome to ascertain the veracity of the report.

The Nigerian Military has deployed military hardware including attack helicopters to the Niger Delta region for surveillance and protection of critical oil infrastructure in the region. The move may not be unconnected with the announcement by Niger Delta Avengers that an earlier ceasefire deal declared last year has been suspended, paving way for possible resumption of hostilities.

No fewer than 42 suspected armed robbers and cultists detained by the Special Anti Robbery Squad cell (SARS) in Yenagoa on Tuesday broke free from detention and escaped, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). A Policeman attached to the SARS who was drafted to cordon off the facility said that they were still taking stock of the number of inmates that had escaped.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has commissioned another 30 x 2 accommodation block for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) at the NAF Base Kano, in furtherance of its efforts at improving the welfare of its personnel for effective service delivery.

According to a statement issued by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) on Thursday, the 2 blocks were named after Late Flight Sergeant Warris E (NAF83/13246) and Late Lance Corporal Gagara G (NAF04/21946) both of who died in the Northeast during OPERATION ZAMAN LAFIYA on August 11, 2011 and January 30, 2012 respectively.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Monday ordered the redeployment of troops who participated in the special military exercise in the Niger Delta to Lake Chad region.

Buratai announced the redeployment at the closing of Exercise Crocodile Smile II in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers.
