Kuje medium correctional centre came under attack last night after unknown gunmen (UGM) suspected to be bandits detonated a high calibre explosive that rocked the facility and the environs, forcing residents to scamper for safety. According to reports, the suspected bandits attacked the facility late Tuesday night to free inmates, despite early warnings by the State Security Service. It was also reported that the UGM came from the back of the prison and were heavy-armed with different grades of explosives.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) urged the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) to desist from serving as conduits for money laundering and Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs), which is the illegal movement of money or capital.

The Nigerian Police have rescued Rev. Fr Luigi Brena, an Italian, who was abducted on Sunday along Ogunwenyi, Usen community in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State. Father Brena, 64, was said to have been abandoned by his abductors after police engaged them in a gun duel, killing three in the process and injuring others.
The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Jennifer Iwegbu, who confirmed the above information in a statement on Monday said “Operatives of the Edo State Police Command attached to Iguobazuwa division on July 3, 2022, around 5.45am received information that Rev. Fr. Luigi Brena, 64, an Italian of Somascan father’s community, was abducted by suspected kidnappers along Ogunwenyi through Usen community in the Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Developers found guilty of violating the land use of any area in Abuja, may have to start paying for the cost of demolishing their own properties, as the Administration has threatened to begin implementation of environmental laws which stipulates financial penalties on offenders. The Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, (AMMC), Tpl. Shuaibu Umar, who disclosed this while briefing reporters at the weekend, said the measure has become necessary following the numerous abuse of building regulations as well as town planning violations.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday promised that his government would do everything possible to rescue those abducted in an attack on a mining site in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State. In a statement signed on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President described the attack as a direct assault on Nigeria which will not be allowed to go unpunished. He also paid tributes to the military personnel who lost their lives repelling the attack saying their effort will not be in vain. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed worry over the decreasing amount of whistleblowers despite the huge rewards the Commission offers to informants. The Commission made this known during a one-day town hall meeting in Awka, Anambra State on Thursday organized by the African Centre for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL) and supported by the Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), was themed ‘Role of Community-Based Organizations in Entrenching Whistleblowing Policy at the Grassroots'.
