In a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework, President Muhammadu Buhari assented to 3 bills on Thursday in the Council Chamber, State House. The signed bills are Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Bill, 2022; the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Bill, 2022 and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Bill, 2022.
The media space was greeted with outrage following the gruesome killing of one, Debora Yakubu, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto state by her fellow students over alleged blasphemy. It was gathered that the victim made a blasphemous comment in their student's WhatsApp group over a heated argument that lead to the ugly incident. It was reported that one of the students in the group posted religious stuff on the platform that lead Debora into attacking the person for using the academic platform for religion which degenerated into a heated argument, and Debora lost her temper by making a blasphemous comment against prophet Muhammad (SAW) of Islam.
The National Assembly joint committee on Land Transportation has yesterday called on the Chinese government to help Nigeria track down the criminals that are still keeping captive passengers that were abducted in a Kaduna-Abuja bound train on 28th March 2022. The Chairman Senate Committee on Land Transportation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, made this appeal on behalf of Nigerians during the committee's oversight visit to the Obafemi Awolowo train station in Ibadan, Oyo state capital yesterday, admitting the leaders were heartbroken after leaving the abducted passengers in captivity for 45days.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the Service in order to improve service delivery, especially in the area of passport administration and issuance. This was made known on Sunday by the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Isa Jere Idris, adding that travelers should apply for passports early to avoid any passport issuance delay.
Bandits have killed at least 40 people in attacks on Sabon Garin Damri and Kalahe villages in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Multiple source who confirmed the incident informed that the criminals arrived at Sabon Garin Damri on dozens of motorcycles, firing at people.
The United Kingdom (UK) has banned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), and other similar Biafran groups from participating in the country’s asylum program. The British government stated that “IPOB is proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, and members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network, have reportedly committed human rights violations in Nigeria.” This was revealed in an updated UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) asylum policy which also stated that MASSOB is not proscribed as a terrorist group in Nigeria but has reportedly been involved in several violent clashes with Nigerian authorities.
