Nigeria's defence chief, Gen. Lucky Irabor during the 2022 International Military Sports Council’s Day stated that the insecurity battling the country will soon be a thing of the past and that all troubled parts of the country will see peace. The Chief of Defence Staff stated that the world needs peace at this time given the ongoing monumental tension between Russia and Ukraine, coupled with various security challenges confronting the nation.

Following the commitment by the federal government of Nigeria to evacuate its citizens caught up in the crises zone in Eastern Europe, the first batch of evacuees from Bucharest, Romania arrived have Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, Abuja this morning. The evacuees fled Ukraine following the aggression by the Russian federation meted on Ukraine pushed the Nigerians to seek refuge in Romania.

The Nigerian Government has announced that it will commence evacuation of Nigerians fleeing Ukraine from Wednesday. In a statement, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it will be expecting the first batch of evacuees from Ukraine on Thursday. Aduda said, “the chartered flights (Air Peace, Max Air) will depart on Wednesday, March 2, to pick up Nigerian evacuees back home.”

Following the war between Ukraine and Russia, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amb. Gabriel Aduda stated that efforts to evacuate stranded Nigerians who fled for safety are successful as it will commence today, the following evacuees received by the Nigerian embassies at Hungry is 650 persons, Poland 350 persons, Romania 940 persons, and Slovakia150 persons.

Former leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, Dokubo Asari, has threatened to kill Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a courtroom when he sees him. Dokubo issued this threat yesterday through his official Facebook page. The former militant leader was reacting to a rumor that he was beaten up by some IPOB members for talking negatively about their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in recent times.

The Minister of Foreign Affair, Geoffrey Onyeama, has disclosed during an interview on Channels Television that the Federal Government will from 2nd March 2022 commence the evacuation of about Two thousand (2,000) Nigerians who have fled to neighboring countries due to war in Ukraine.
