The Nigerian Government has announced that it will commence evacuation of Nigerians fleeing Ukraine from Wednesday. In a statement, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it will be expecting the first batch of evacuees from Ukraine on Thursday. Aduda said, “the chartered flights (Air Peace, Max Air) will depart on Wednesday, March 2, to pick up Nigerian evacuees back home.”

Following the war between Ukraine and Russia, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amb. Gabriel Aduda stated that efforts to evacuate stranded Nigerians who fled for safety are successful as it will commence today, the following evacuees received by the Nigerian embassies at Hungry is 650 persons, Poland 350 persons, Romania 940 persons, and Slovakia150 persons.

Former leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, Dokubo Asari, has threatened to kill Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a courtroom when he sees him. Dokubo issued this threat yesterday through his official Facebook page. The former militant leader was reacting to a rumor that he was beaten up by some IPOB members for talking negatively about their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in recent times.

The Minister of Foreign Affair, Geoffrey Onyeama, has disclosed during an interview on Channels Television that the Federal Government will from 2nd March 2022 commence the evacuation of about Two thousand (2,000) Nigerians who have fled to neighboring countries due to war in Ukraine.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor assured Nigerians that its personnel was not contemplating undertaking a coup, adding that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would continue to enlighten its personnel that coups do “more harm than good”.

Following the building-up of tension in Ukraine as a result of invasion by the Russian authority, the Nigerian Government has urged its citizen trapped in the crises to stay safe and avoid trouble areas that may endanger their lives. Ukraine comes under attack by the Russian forces and has trapped many nationals after several threats of sanctions and truce attempted by some world prominent leaders have failed to yield any result. The Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine said this was just an advisory appeal to its citizens to take responsibility for their security while the country resolves its crises.
