The Kaduna state #EndSARS public hearing panel of Inquiry has concluded its investigation into police brutality and other related extra-judicial killings after it entertained a total of 69 petitions from individuals and organisations. Justice David Wyom (rtd) who headed the panel made this disclosure at the end of its sitting in the state capital on Friday. He said that some of the petitions that bothered human rights violations were cases that were pathetic and avoidable. He added that some of the petitions were either withdrawn or struck out by the panel.

Five among the unspecified number of students kidnapped from Federal Government College Birnin Yauri, in kebbi state have been rescued while one unfortunately died. The rescued students comprising four students and a teacher were delivered from the hands of their captors by the Joint Taskforce Component of Operation Hadari Daji, during a gun battle. The Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Taskforce in the North-West Zone, Air Commodore Abubakar AbdulKadir, confirmed this on Friday to reporters in Zamfara State. According to Abdulkadir, the gallant troops came in contact with the assailants in the early hours of Friday and engaged them in a gun battle, during which five of the abducted victims were rescued. The military officer however did not give an account of how one of the students died nor did he give his/her identity.

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged troops of Operation Hadin Kai to intensify their onslaught against Boko Haram and other terrorists in the Northeast, urging them not to relent until peace is restored in the region and all Internally Displaced People (IDPs) are resettled in their homes. President Buhari who spoke during his visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Monday also assured the troops that new equipment which had just been procured would be deployed for their use. The President also promised that resources will be devoted to taking care of the families of soldiers and other security agents killed in action while defending the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari is on a one-day official visit to Borno State to assess security challenges in the North-East and inaugurate some state projects. This was disclosed on Wednesday by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum in a statement titled, ‘Thursday: Why Buhari deserves Borno’s rousing welcome.’

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa revealed that he has been receiving death threats since he was appointed the chairman of the commission.

The chairman Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume has said that the Military will have no excuse to deliver on the war against terrorism and insurgency with the N895bn extra budget submitted by the executive to the National Assembly for consideration. In his ‘Democracy Day’ statement, Ndume said that the money would boost the fight against insurgency. According to Senator Ndume, the military no longer has excuses to succeed in the war against Bokoharam and other criminal elements.
