The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the reopening of all the Unity schools shut down amid the escalating security challenges in the country.
The Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the development underscores Nigeria’s efforts to protect students and also sustain uninterrupted learning.
The Statement read, “After the strengthening of security architecture within and around the affected schools, academic activities have fully resumed. Students have returned safely to their campuses, with many currently concluding their December academic programs, while others have completed their examinations.”
The ministry emphasized that the safety and well-being of students remain paramount, adding that the government is collaborating with security agencies to restore normalcy and sustain stability in schools across the country.
“The federal government remains resolute in its responsibility to protect every Nigerian child and to uphold their fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment.
“This administration places strong emphasis on human capital development and recognizes education as a critical pillar for national growth and development. Accordingly, it remains determined to prevent any disruption to the academic calendar,” it stated.
The ministry explained that the government continues to work closely with relevant security agencies to maintain stability and restore normalcy within school environments nationwide.
Recall that the federal government, on November 21, directed the immediate lockdown of some unity schools following a surge in security threats, including the mass abduction of students from schools across the country.
