The Federal Government says it acknowledged the impact of the insecurity challenges facing the country and promises to end the menace before the end of year 2024. This was made known by the State Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, during an interview with BBC Hausa. Matawalle revealed that the government was adopting a new strategy by being proactive instead of the normal combat with bandits, now they neutralised them before they struck, particularly in the troubled North.
Mutawalle said, “God’s willing, from now to the November of 2024, all security challenges will be overcome,”
He explained that the measures and strategies that are being taken would end the menace, adding that the measures include pre-empting the gunmen in their homes before they attack and crush them.
After his defeat during the gubernatorial election in Zamfara State, Matawalle, ignited a kind of disagreement with his successor, Dr. Dauda Lawan Dare of PDP, over allegations of corruption and embezzlement of state funds.
The minister said despite the challenges of the insecurity, his office has surmounted a courage to face it describing his state governor that “the governor of the state has never contacted me and Badaru or asked to meet with us on the security of his state”.
He added that some state governors, who their states are facing similar problem to seek cooperating with the federal government to overcome it.
“Therefore, I am calling on my governor seek the cooperation of the security forces and the federal government because he cannot do the job alone.
“He should not mind what is between me and him, he should mind the people of Zamfara State. Put aside all politics and let unite to find a solution for the state,” he added.
