Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has disagreed with those describing Nigeria as failed state, instead said, Nigeria is not yet a “failed” state but a “failing” state. However, he suggested that to rescue the country before it actually becomes a failed state as some people are describing it, Jega said that something urgent must be done to restructure the country before the 2027 general elections.
The ex-INEC boss made those remarks during a maiden convocation of the Bauchi State University, Gadau.
While clarifying the reasons for his calls for the restructuring of the country before 2027, Jega explained that a country would only be declared as a failed state if it fails to provide for the security, welfare, and basic needs of its citizens.
