There was mild drama at the Sam Mbakwe international cargo airport in Owerri, Imo State on Monday following reports of a fire outbreak at the arrival section of the airport. Tho no report of any casualties yet but it was reported that equipment and infrastructure were said to have been damaged.
Although the cause of the inferno is yet unknown, sources at the airport revealed that there was an ongoing renovation at the arrival section suspected to have caused the outbreak.
Further findings indicate that the inferno, which lasted for 50 minutes, started around 2:10 pm.
It took spirited efforts from men of the fire service and the airport workers to quench the blaze.
“It happened at the arrival department of the airport where the authority was carrying out renovation work.
“It would have caused bigger havoc but for the arrival of men of the fire service.
