The Defence Headquarters has disclosed that Leah Sharibu and some aid workers are still in captivity in the hand of Boko Haram is because the military is exercising some caution to ensure that their lives are not put in danger in a struggle to rescue them.
This was disclosed in Abuja by the Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu while briefing newsmen on the troops coordinated joint operations.
Sharibu was among the over 100 girls that were abducted by the terrorist at the Government Girls Technical College Dapchi in Yobe state on February 28, 2018 as others have already been released.
Nwachukwu in his statement revealed, “Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole troops have been treading cautiously because these people are all in the hands of the terrorists and any reckless move may result in their annihilation by the terrorists just to ward off the troops, it is a very complex and risky operation but the troops are working day and night to ensure that they are rescued”.
He disclosed the terrorist mission for the abduction was targeted on raising fund to support their illicit activities, saying the troop are working tirelessly to ensure all abductors in captivity are released safely.
However, he debunked the statement credited to the Governor of Borno state claiming that some communities are still in the hand of the insurgents.
He said the statement is not true as the terrorist has been defeated and pushed as far as Tumbus into hibernation as they only come out to wage war on soft targets.
To put the record straight, Nwachukwu said the Boko Haram are not in control of any part of the country, saying Boko Haram and ISWAP has been decimated and defeated. They have been pushed to Tumbus, that is the island between Nigeria and Chad Republic, Niger and Cameroun where they have an enclave of hibernation and organising their coordinated attacks on soft targets.
