The House of Representatives on Thursday unveiled plans to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the failure of the Federal Government to pay contractors working with Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) since 2024. In the bid to address the concerns, the House resolved to invite the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu; Accountant-General of the Federation, Babatunde Ogun Jimi; Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso and Auditor-General of the Federation, Mr. Shaakaa Chira and any other relevant officials.

The Nigerian Chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI) today announced the removal of the name of the Executive Director, International Press Centre, Mr Lanre Arogundade, from the Department of State Security’s watchlist after about forty years. IPI Nigeria President, Mr. Musikilu Mojeed announced this in Abeokuta, Ogun State at the 3rd Nigerian Media Leaders’ Summit convened by Journalism Clinic led by veteran Journalist Taiwo Obe with media owners and top editors in attendance. Mr Mojeed said the Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, informed IPI Nigeria of the development during a recent engagement with the Service.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing capable leaders to head the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). He specifically praised the appointments of Bashir Bayo Ojulari as Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as Non-Executive Chairman. President Bola Tinubu is set to hold discussions with the leadership of Nigeria's power-generating companies (Gencos) in a bid to address the critical N4 trillion debt that threatens the stability of the nation's electricity supply. This move is a direct response to the escalating concerns raised during a recent meeting between the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the chairpersons of the Gencos in Abuja. The urgency of the situation stems from fears that the national power grid could collapse due to severe financial constraints within the sector. The Gencos had earlier issued a stark warning to the Federal Government regarding the growing debt, which has now reached a staggering N4 trillion. This figure includes N2 trillion owed for power supplied in 2024 and N1.9 trillion in legacy debts. Bolaji Tunji, the Minister's Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, revealed that the Federal Government has committed to immediately settling a significant portion of the debt. The remaining balance is to be addressed through financial instruments, such as promissory notes, within the next six months. This plan is to be presented during the scheduled meeting between President Tinubu and the Gencos’ leadership.

The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has summoned Air Peace Limited over persistent flight delays and cancellations that continue to inconvenience travelers. In a statement released on Friday by Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the authority expressed concern over the airline’s ongoing operational challenges and emphasized the urgent need for corrective measures. This development follows a meeting at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, where the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Captain Chris Najomo, met with senior executives from Air Peace. During the meeting, Captain Najomo advised the airline to scale down its operations to align with the number of serviceable aircraft in its fleet in order to minimize disruptions and restore passenger confidence.

Late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, after being found guilty of culpable homicide in connection with the death of his wife on April 8, 2022.
