A Public Accountability and Governance Advocacy Group, the Executive Watchdog, has given Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan a seven-day ultimatum to produce evidence of the assassination attempt she brought against Senate President Godswill Akpabio or get arrested. The group spokesman, Mr Fedelis Ella, in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, urged security agencies to arrest Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan if she failed to provide the evidence within the seven days period while describing the assassination claim as “reckless, unfounded and deeply injurious to democratic integrity.

Three Staff of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA) have tendered formal apologies to the Department of State Services (DSS) after being arrested for assaulting DSS operatives during the recent leadership crisis at the legislative chamber.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has on Thursday announced that corps members will start receiving monthly allowance of N77,000 starting from March, 2025.  This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Director, of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, during an interactive session with Corps Members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC zonal offices in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.  “With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record-keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the scheme appreciate you.”  

The National Association of University Students (NAUS) has called on the Federal Government to start the payment of the N77,000 allowances to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. The leadership of NAUS reminds the FG of its promises made seven months ago to increase monthly allowances from N33,000 to N77,000. Yet corps members are still waiting. The delay and silence from FG is not just frustrating but devastating. This is turning into anger as thousands of corps members struggle to survive on an outdated stipend in an economy that grows harsher by the day. The Government’s silence has left corps members in the dark. No explanations, and no updates. In a statement made by the Chairman of Campus Monitoring Committee Osun State, Comr. Olayinka Popoola urges the Federal Government to stop delaying and ensure the payment of the new allowance structure starting this month.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has confirmed the death of six persons, with 14 cars burnt in a devastating accident in Abuja.
