The Supreme Court, has annuls the National Lottery Act 2005 enacted by the National Assembly on Friday. A seven-member panel of the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgment held that the National Lottery Act 2005 should no longer be enforced in all states, except the Federal Capital Territory, in respect of which the National Assembly is empowered to make laws.

President Bola Tinubu has re-designated the positions of the recently appointed officials in the State House media and communications team to enhance efficiency within the government’s communication force. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, explained that Sunday Dare, who was Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation has been re assigned as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications.

The Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi arrived Nigeria on Saturday on a state visit on the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and was welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a State Visit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.

This was disclosed in a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Prime Minister Modi visit to Nigeria will be the first by an Indian prime minister since Dr Manmohan Singh’s state visit in 2007.

The statement read: “President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will seek to strengthen Nigeria’s and India’s ties further during their bilateral discussions."

“Both leaders will exchange signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to enhance collaboration in critical sectors.”

The Federal Government has finalized plans to construct seven dams in the six southwestern states for irrigation purposes and to enhance food production. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Adedeji Ashiru, disclosed this on Wednesday. Ashiru revealed that plans are ongoing to concession the hydropower generating component of the Oyan Dam to boost the country’s power supply. He said that the dam, which was installed with three turbines at its construction in 1979, is capable of generating nine megawatts of electricity. Ashiru stated this at the 46th Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Association for Consulting Engineering in Lagos with the theme: “Sustainable Development: Building Resilient Cities.”

The Sokoto State Government has raised the alarm over the emergence of another deadly group in the state, identified as LAKURAWAS, terrorizing many local government areas in the state. The State Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, stated this while receiving participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, who were on a study tour in the state. Gobir said the group is known to be a faith-based idealist, saying, “Assessment carried out indicated that the group possessed sophisticated weapons and their criminal activities were observed in about five local government areas of the state.”
