The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has continued to hold former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami in custody, despite being granted bail on December 23, 2025, by an Abuja high court.
Bello Doka, media aide to Mallami, in a Statement on Wednesday, stated that the continued detention is unlawful and a blatant disregard of the court’s order.
Doka alleged that the EFCC was using the media to circulate what he described as negative and misleading claims, maintaining that Malami had willingly submitted himself for questioning and had already fulfilled the bail conditions previously imposed by the agency.
He said, “His continued detention at the EFCC facility is a breach of legal procedures and a blatant abuse of office.”
He further stated that detaining Malami despite being granted bail by a court constitutes a breach of his fundamental human rights and gives the impression that the EFCC is operating above the law.
Doka urged the EFCC to bring Malami before a court of law if it truly has a case against him, rather than subjecting him to what he termed a trial by media.
