Abdullahi Usman, the chairman of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), has resigned from his position, which was confirmed on Monday by Ahmed Muazu, the media assistant to the chairman.
Although no official reason for this development has been given, experts suggest it could be a result of a management crisis and alleged misappropriation of Hajj funds.
According to reports, some commissioners of NAHCON reportedly submitted a petition to President Tinubu, passing a vote of no confidence in Usman.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Usman as the chairman of the Commission in August 2024, following the sack of his predecessor, Jala Arabi, under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations of the mismanagement of the presidential subsidy of N90 billion for the 2024 hajj pilgrimage.
