The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of Mr. Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran, Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED). This confirmation was made during a phone conversation with Channels Television by the command's Public Relations Officer, Olusola Ayanlade. Ayanlade revealed that the Registrar passed away in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, noting that the incident was reported at the Finibi division in Akure.
He said, “I can confirm to you that the man was killed. From the information I have at my disposal, two men came out of the bush, and they forced a substance into another person’s mouth. Meanwhile, I cannot confirm to you that the substance was poisonous; an autopsy will do that.”
The case, according to him, has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department for further investigation. He urged members of the public with any relevant information about the perpetrators to come forward and assist the police.
Meanwhile, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Oluyi, also confirmed Adeniran’s passing.
Describing the incident as tragic, he said it had plunged the university community into mourning. He added that the late Registrar was on duty as recently as Monday, 14th July, 2025, “stressing that the cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.”
Mr. Adeniran was appointed as the third substantive Registrar of UNIMED on January 6, 2025, and served in that capacity until his untimely death on July 17, 2025.
His body has been deposited in the morgue of a nearby hospital.
