In an effort to create a sustainable and innovative Nigerian economy, the Federal Government has introduced a groundbreaking Youth-Focused Electric Tricycle Empowerment Initiative. Alh, the Minister of Labor and Employment, is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's representative. At the initiative's national launch on November 26, 2025, in Eagle Square, Abuja, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi made the announcement. He characterized the initiative as a daring step aimed at empowering young Nigerians and accelerating the country's transition to a modern green economy.
The program, which is being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in collaboration with House of Destiny Global Services Ltd. and the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NATOMORAS), presents electric tricycles as a more intelligent and environmentally friendly option for Nigeria's transportation industry.
The project is "a practical demonstration of our commitment to empowering young Nigerians through modern, sustainable solutions," according to President Tinubu, who commended the Ministry for its visionary leadership.
He stressed significant benefits of the program, including:
1. Expanding youth self-employment and mobile entrepreneurship.
2. Reducing transportation costs by up to 40%.
3. Cutting carbon emissions and boosting Nigeria's clean energy transition.
Comrade Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Youth Development, reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to putting young people at the heart of national development. He emphasized that the effort directly addresses the President's direction to guarantee that both formal and informal youth benefit from transparent and inclusive government programs.
He remarked on how many young Nigerians, particularly those in the informal sector, have long felt excluded from government initiatives. The Tricycle Empowerment Initiative, he explained, seeks to shift that narrative by recognizing and incorporating the contributions of street transporters, artists, and other informal workers into national growth plans.
Mr. Oluwole Joseph, Director of General Services, spoke on behalf of the Permanent Secretary and hailed the programme as a movement preparing Nigeria's youth for a technologically driven future. He encouraged recipients to take advantage of the opportunity and urged stakeholders to continue supporting the programme to improve its long-term impact on economic growth and environmental resilience.
Dr. Israel Olajumoke, CEO of House of Destiny Global Services Ltd., stated that each electric tricycle deployed on Nigerian roads creates a new job, boosts local economic activity, and reduces carbon emissions. With no petrol use, operators can increase their profit margins and eventually shift from riders to asset owners. He referred to the idea as "smart economics and an environmental necessity."
In his goodwill message, NATOMORAS National President Alh. Buba Gwoza underlined the organization's commitment to enhancing members' livelihoods and contributing to Nigeria's green transition. He praised House of Destiny Global Services Ltd. as a reputable organization with extensive experience in electric car recycling and management.
The inauguration of the Electric Tricycle Empowerment Scheme is a significant step toward putting Nigerian youth at the forefront of burgeoning green sectors while also supporting a more efficient and environmentally friendly national transportation network.
