The speculation that the Yoruba World Congress (YWC) headed by Prof. BanjiAkintoye is heading for the rocks is truly right and on course it seems. The development is following a plethora of issues bedevilling the Pan-Yoruba movement. The recent resignation of the Organising Secretary of YWC, DejiOsibogun, a renowned media mogul and the convener of a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Yoruba Ko’yaMovement for Development, Leadership, Training and Peace Foundation as well as fractionalisation within the group is now coming to the fore as it attempts to deal with varying factions therein.

That the coronavirus disease, COVID-19, is ravaging the world is no longer news. At the last count, global fatalities have surpassed sixteen thousand (16000) deaths with over 386000 cases. Countries like Italy (50,000+) USA (45,000 +) Spain (29500+) France (16000 +) and Iran (14500+) are some of the worse hit. 

On Monday, the Spanish Supreme Court jailed nine Catalan separatist leaders over their roles in the failed bid for secession about two years ago. While Catalonia’s former vice-president Oriol Junqueras was convicted of sedition and misuse of public funds and sentenced to 13 years in prison, former Catalan foreign minister Raül Romeva, labour minister Dolors Bassa and regional government spokesman Jordi Turull were each convicted of the same offences and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and handed 12-year bans on holding office.

All appears not to be well within the ranks of the self-styled Nigerian revolutionaries following emerging allegations of commercialization of the struggle and the refusal by major organizers of the protest to evenly distribute funds so far received. 

Information has emerged on why the organised labour under the aegis of Nigerian Labour Union (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) has refused to be associated with the planned revolution protest, being championed by the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Alliance (AAC) and Publisher of Sahara reporters, OmoyeleSowore. 

One of the security challenges that have continued to plague the country is the recurring violent clashes between pastoralists and farmers. The situation which is predominant in most states including Zamfara, Benue, Plateau, Imo, Abia, Taraba, Sokoto and Adamawa among others has led to the loss of lives and properties worth billions of Naira.
