The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive prohibiting police operatives from carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti). Additionally, he has strongly warned officers against human rights violations, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to upholding these rights. During a virtual meeting with strategic police managers, Egbetokun expressed concern over repeated complaints of human rights abuses received through the Force’s complaint channels. According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the meeting aimed to reinforce professionalism, ethical conduct, and operational integrity within the police force.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has this afternoon, ordered all senior police officers who have either clocked 35 years in service or are above the age of 60 to proceed on retirement with immediate effects. The directive is coming on the heel of fresh controversy within the force over the tenure extension handed over to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun after he clocked 60 years.

Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola SAN, has this morning after much persuasion by royal fathers has agreed to withdraw the cases instituted against activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi. Babalola’s petition to the police commissioner in Ekiti State alleging that, Farotimi defamed him in a book he published titled ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’, a complain that made the police arrest the activist lawyer and paraded him before two courts in Ekiti.
