The Israeli military claimed to have intercepted a missile fired at Israel's largest airport on Tuesday, while Yemen's Huthi rebels took credit for the incident. According to a video statement released by their military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, the Iran-backed rebels hit Ben Gurion airport "using a 'Palestine 2' hypersonic ballistic missile" in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
"A missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli air force," the Israeli military wrote on X.
The Houthis have launched many missiles and drones against Israel since the battle in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023. They have provoked Israeli airstrikes on rebel sites in Yemen, although most have been intercepted.
Several rounds of US-led airstrikes have been triggered by the rebels' attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, which are allegedly connected to Israel.
