In a climate of heightened scrutiny and controversy, lawyers representing clients in detention have increasingly turned to public platforms to voice their frustrations. Often, these legal advocates engage in a campaign of rhetoric aimed at garnering public sympathy by criticizing government actions and the agencies that they believe is responsible for holding their clients. I will liken this to the advent of “Pinocchio lawyer" a term that evokes the image of the infamous wooden puppet whose nose grows longer with each lie—raises important questions about the ethics of legal representation and the line between zealous advocacy and deception.

The Lagos State Government has reiterated that a court ruling restricting protests to two designated venues remains effective as organizers prepare for the upcoming October 1, 2024 protest. This announcement comes amid plans for demonstrations across Lagos and other states.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Nigerian Army have reported significant progress in their ongoing operations against armed terrorists across Kaduna, Borno, and Yobe states, including the elimination of eight terrorists and the rescue of 40 kidnapped individuals.

NIHSA also advised people in these states as well as officials of government at all levels to “heighten their vigilance and implement appropriate preparedness measures to mitigate potential flooding impact that may arise due to increase in flow levels of our major rivers during this period.”

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, stated that it is unrealistic for two million security personnel to protect a population of over two hundred million Nigerians. The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), following a screening session held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Abuja.
