According to the Defense Headquarters, in August, military personnel killed several terrorists, detained 85 suspects, and freed 66 hostages who had been abducted nationwide. This was said by Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director, Defence Media activities, during a briefing for reporters on military activities in Abuja on Thursday.
According to him, Operation Hadin Kai forces in the Northeast killed dozens of Boko Haram/ISWAP members, detained 15 individuals, including 13 collaborators, a gunrunner, and a drug dealer, and freed eight abducted people.
Troops in the North West detained 23 suspects, freed 24 abducted victims, and killed terrorists in the states of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Katsina.
"Operation Enduring Peace troops in the North Central killed terrorists, detained seven criminals, and freed two hostages." In Bassa LGA, another suspect was found in possession of N3 million in ransom money, according to Kangye.
In Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi, and the FCT, Operation Whirl Stroke detained nine radicals and freed thirteen captives, he said.
Overall, according to Kangye, the coordinated operations in all theaters retrieved a significant amount of explosives, trucks, motorbikes, ammunition, and weapons.
"Over the course of the reviewed month, troops have continued to step up joint operations to neutralize national security threats, restore stability, and protect citizens' lives and property," he stated.
According to the Defence Headquarters, 6,260 terrorists have been killed, and 14,138 more terrorists and criminals have been captured in combined military operations around the nation in the last two years.
During the enlarged meeting with media executives in Abuja, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Abu-Mawashi, Deputy Director, Defense Media activities, disclosed this information while providing a summary and scorecard of military activities.
