The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned his position with immediate effect, which was contained in a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu.
This was made known in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stating that Abubakar resigned based on health grounds.
Mr. Gabriel Oyebanji, a security expert, told a Vigil360 correspondent that he was happy with this development and expected his replacement to be critical to tackling Nigeria’s security challenges; he, however, noted that other factors such as retraining and proper equipment were critical.
Our correspondent also asked Mrs. Chioma Nwachukwu, a banker in Abuja, and she said she welcomed any effort to improve the country’s level of security.
Badaru’s replacement has not been announced as of the time of this report, but analysts have suggested that President Tinubu’s administration is searching for the appropriate person with the requisite experience.
