National Security Adviser (NSA) Malam Nuhu Ribadu, on 1st December 2025, visited Kontagora, Niger State, to meet with the parents of the recently abducted students of St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area, reiterating the Federal Government will ensure their safe return. The NSA was accompanied by the Director-General of State Security Services, Mr. Oluwastosin Adeola Ajayi, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Bernard Dodo, in a closed-door meeting with the school proprietor, Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, and the principal, Mrs. Cecilia Gwan.
Ribadu promised that the security agencies had intensified operations for the freedom of the kidnapped children, also stressing the need for national unity in confronting the insecurity in the nation.
“This is a solemn and challenging moment for us. Our duty is to protect every citizen,” the NSA said. “The President is deeply concerned. He has put aside his travel plans to focus fully on resolving this crisis.”
He added that the government would not relent in its efforts. “We are all under attack. We must stand together to prevent divisiveness and ensure that evil does not prevail,” he said.
Mr. Ribadu commended Bishop Yohanna for his patience and resilience despite the frustrations surrounding the abduction. He said Nigeria’s international partners, including the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, were providing support to the rescue efforts.
Over 200 pupils, students, and staff of the school remain in captivity more than a week after the mass abduction, with their exact location still unknown.
