President Bola Tinubu on Sunday received the commander of the United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM), Dagvin Anderson, in a courtesy visit to the State House in Abuja.
This was made known in a statement issued by the Presidency, stating that the delegation also included the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Nigeria, Keith Heffern; Senior Foreign Policy Adviser, AFRICOM, Peter Vrooman; and the Command Sergeant Major and Command Senior Enlisted Leader of AFRICOM, Garric Banfield.
The visit also had in attendance the top security and intelligence chiefs in Nigeria, such as National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Emmanuel Uandiandeye; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; and the Director-General of the State Security Services (SSS), Tosin Ajayi.
The visit was to strengthen the ongoing diplomatic and security arrangement between the two countries, with a focus on security cooperation and intelligence coordination as a result of US President Donald Trump designating Nigeria as a country of particular concern.
President Trump then threatened military action in Nigeria if the government did not tackle terrorists who President Trump claimed were targeting Christians.
