The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs).

This was disclosed by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of PSC, Torty Kalu, stating that the promotions were based on merit such as seniority, service records, and performance in written examinations and oral interviews, which were conducted on Friday at the corporate headquarters of the PSC.

The 7 officers elevated to the rank of DIG are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.

The Commission noted that "the promotions became necessary to fill the vacancies created by the retirement of eight DIGs who previously occupied these strategic offices.”

The PSC also stated that the promotions also followed the earlier elevation of DIG Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of DIG, and the newly promoted officers are expected to now join the Force Management Team.
